Driving Me Nuts

Monday, March 21st, 2005

We had a rather exciting weekend, at least for us. We went shopping for furniture and were lucky enough to be able to get just about everything we needed. Most of it won’t be here for a few weeks but just having the majority of the shopping finished is a real relief. I’m not much of a shopper contrary to the generalization that all women love to shop. I still have to find a few things but for the most part we’re set and I’m grateful that we can finally live in a real home. Living these past five years in tiny cramped apartments, eating dinner in bed and cooking on a hot plate really makes you appreciate the things that most people take for granted. Everytime I walk into the dining room and see the dinet set, the pretty curtains and buffet I think I’ve walked into someone elses house.

So what did we get? A livingroom set, a bedroom set (you mean mattresses aren’t supposed to be on the floor?) two book shelves, two desks, a file cabinet, curtains, rugs and accessories for the bathrooms and livingroom. I also got a bird feeder and a hummingbird feeder for the yard. We still need a washer and dryer but have decided to put that off until next year because we’ll probably be moving again and we don’t want to lug that along with us. As soon as everything arrives and I set it up I’ll take pictures and post them here.

We ate lunch at Arby’s, which is the first time we’ve eaten out in I don’t know how long. Arby’s is the first place Sean ever took me to eat when we were dating and back then the food was pretty crummy. But apparently thier sandwiches have improved and thier salads are awesome. I don’t know if they’re that good elsewhere but here in Mayberry everything seems better. I got the Martha’s Vineyard Salad and loved it which was a surprise for me since I never thought I would like fruit in a salad. Anyway, eating out was a real treat for us because until now we never could have afforded it and even if we could have I wouldn’t have been able to go because of my health.

Speaking of health we finally got our medical cards and I’m hoping to get an appointment soon. I’m trying so hard to lose wieght because I really think it would help me get pregnant but no matter what I do I don’t seem to lose a pound. I suppose it’s because of my thyroid condition and I really hope this new doctor will get it figured out and put me on the right meds so we can finally get things going. I feel so helpless sometimes and my maternal clock isn’t ticking so much as exploding. I know that things will get better though, like I said everything is better in Mayberry.

I felt so good that I asked Sean to start teaching me how to drive. I never learned when I was a teenager because I’ve always been petrified that I would run over some poor animal. I’ve been in quite a few accidents and the one time I did try to drive it was in the middle of a blizzard and I just about took our front porch off. I backed out of the driveway twice which I know doesn’t sound like much but it was totally petrifying for me. And I can’t wait to do it again.

Well, I must go because I have some research to do on how to get rid of the ants that keep coming in from around the patio door. I suppose EVERYTHING in Mayberry can’t be perfect. But close enough for me :) Good luck and blessings, Prana

P.S. Don’t forget to wish Sean a happy 30th birthday!!!

Ups And Downs

Updates and pictures, woo!

Things here in Mayberry are going nicely. The weather is heating up and the cats are really enjoying the giant sunspot created by the sliding glass doors to the patio. We’ve slipped into a comfortable routine and the house finally feels like home. We haven’t been able to get much for the house yet but we’re hoping to get a livingroom set and ::crosses fingers:: a washer and dryer at the end of the month. I swear one more week of sitting on the living room floor to watch TV and I’m going to have a permanent hunchback.

We’ve been a bit stressed lately as last week Sean’s dad passed out at work and hit his head. It turned out that he had a brain aneurysm and it burst. When they took him for some tests they discovered that he needed a pace maker. He’s always had heart problems and has had a heart attack in the past so it’s really no surprise but that doesn’t make it any easier for the family. He got through the surgery without any problems and he’s feeling much better so we fully expect him to be up and running after a month of much needed rest.

The porch kitties are coming around in droves and I find myself leaving them more and more food. I had hoped to capture them and take them to the shelter so they could have a decent home before the summer heat became dangerous to them but it seems that several of them are pregnant. They haven’t been coming around as much this week which leads me to believe that they must have had thier babies and now I’ll have to wait until the kittens are old enough to eat solid food before I can capture them. I swear, I will never understand how people can neglect thier pets and let things get this bad.

Sean’s birthday is next week, the big 30, so send him an ecard or something. And of course keep his dad in your prayers. Oh and happy (early) Ostara, Spring Equinox or Easter depending on your preference. Until next time…
Good luck and blessings, Prana
