Valley Of The Dolls

Last weekend we went shopping, again. I’m really starting to feel guilty about all the money we’re spending but it’s not spent frivolously and when will we have extra money again? Besides, what’s the point of working so hard for the money if you aren’t going to use it on things that make you happy?

So what did we get? Well we bought the three tapestries for the bedroom we’d wanted all year. I’m not going to tell you how much they cost because I think my mom might have a coronary but lets just say that they’re real tapestries and two had to be special ordered from Belgium. We stopped at a used bookstore and didn’t find anything we wanted (although there were some amusing books including a really bad book on natural childbirth from the seventies, complete with lots of pictures of naked hairy pregnant hippies). They had an interesting paranormal section and it was obvious someone had bought out every book on exorcisms they had. That made me rather nervous.

As we were leaving we checked the children’s section on a whim where I found my teen years in book form. They had at least twenty Christopher Pike books and I bought every single one without even checking the price. He wrote books in the 80′s and 90′s for young adults and those books quite literally saved my life.

After that we stopped at a really spiffy flea market type store. The store is always very dusty and quiet and empty which is just how I like it. It’s piled high in every corner with the most fascinating and bizzare trash and treaures. I found a Holly Hobby book from the 70′s and since I’m an amateur collector of Holly Hobby products I snapped it up for five bucks.

We spent a good five minutes oggling the creepy dolls in a display case. If you’re brave you can scroll down. You can almost hear them chanting ‘Brains!’.

Last but not least we swung over to Toboco’s which is probably the coolest store I’ve ever seen. We’ve been in several times and always end up buying something. It’s full of incense and candles, statues, paper fans, windchimes, jewelry and more. I guess you could say it’s a metaphysical store but it has more decor than spiritual items. This time we ended up getting a statue of what I think is a Hindu deity. Don’t quote me on that, I know little about thier Gods. I bought it because it was pretty and would look nice on my shelf. Sean also bought me a very pretty Dragonfly necklace made of Swarovski crystals.

I spent some time the last two weekends driving. I don’t know how to drive, I’m petrified of driving, I want nothing to do with it. But, since we’re going to have kids it’s important that I learn how. Last weekend I drove to the end of our block. This weekend I made it two blocks (hyperventilating and shouting that we were going to crash and burn the whole way). Sean says I did good but I think he’s just being nice because I have boobs. I’m pretty proud of myself though, it’s hard to overcome your phobias.

We also drove up to the local college and what people in town refer to as the ‘rich’ part of town. I don’t know that I agree, it looked pretty much the same as anywhere else but the view was nice so I took some pictures. They’re a bit big so I’ll link them below.

I have some spiffy plans this weekend and I’ll have more photos soon. Come back and visit me and I might have a surprise for you :) Good luck and blessings, Prana
